The system has a central atmospheric pressure of 1000 hPa (hectopascals), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) on Thursday. An area of strong winds—with speeds of 30 knots or greater—extends 280 km (150 NM) to the north and 165 km (90 NM) to the south.
Maximum significant wave heights are reaching 6.1 meters (20 feet), according to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC).
Surigae developed from tropical cyclone disturbance 91W near Guam and is moving west-northwest toward the Philippine Sea.
According to the JTWC, Surigae is expected to continue moving in a northwesterly direction.
